Boy Scouts Recognized at New Hyde Park Village Meeting

Members of Troop 298 were given thank you letters for their volunteerism.

Five Boy Scouts from Troop 298 were acknowledged and thanked for their recent volunteer efforts at the meeting of New Hyde Park Village Board meeting Tuesday night at the village hall.

Scouts Anthony Pallisco, Connor Garvin, James Garvin, Michael Sokol and James Sokol received thank you letters from the board members for being active members of the community.

“The difference between citizenship and residency is, a citizen is an active participant in the community, a resident is a passive member of the community,” Mayor Daniel Petruccio said. “[The boy scouts’] active participation in the Village of New Hyde Park for their efforts to help clean up some areas in village hall and do some work for us is greatly, greatly appreciated.”

Deputy mayor Robert Lofaro added that “a couple of weeks ago the scouts had a pancake breakfast that many of the board members go to and the great thing about us attending their pancake breakfast and activities is because of how much work they do for us as the village and we as village residents, so we really appreciate all the help they gave us.”
