Why Go: Mothers and daughters can enjoy reading “The Girls” by Amy Goldman Koss. Share your views of the book with your mom and others in the group.

Where/When: Memories Pub; Friday, 9:30 p.m.
Why Go: Pep & The Soul Explosion Band are a local Long Island band offering a great performance covering classics from the 70’s and 80’s, R&B/Soul and Funk.
Pricing: Free admission.
Where/When: Eisenhower Park – Batting Cage; Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Why Go: If the sun is shining then it’s a perfect weekend to check out the new and improved batting cage at Eisenhower Park.
Pricing: $3 (25 pitches) for residents and $5 (25 pitches) for non-residents.
Where/When: The New Hyde Park parade route – Hillside Blvd to Jericho to New Hyde Park Road to Lincoln to Memorial Park; Saturday, 10 a.m.
Why Go: There is no better way to spend Saturday morning of Memorial Day weekend than heading down to watch a parade.
Pricing: Free.
Where/When: Eisenhower Park; Saturday, 10 a.m.
Why Go: A free event that is part of “Fleet Week 2011” and the Nassau County “Armed Forces Week.” The event features a mine countermeasures demonstration, Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 22 (HSC-22), Sea Knight helicopters, an assault demonstration and so much more. Following the demonstrations helicopters will be on display, along with the weapons typically used by a Marine Corps rifle platoon.
