Man Arrested After Chase in New Hyde Park
Elmont resident held on drug, assault charges after capture in Floral Park.
An Elmont man was arrested on charges of assault and drug possession after a pursuit Monday night.
Third Squad detectives reported the following:
Officers on patrol saw Wallace C. Cain, 27, operating a 2009 Honda Accord with dark-tinted windows on Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park. When they attempted to stop him, the car continued into Floral Park until reaching a dead end on Flower Avenue. Cain then fled on foot but he was caught by officers soon after on Plainfield Avenue. While attempting to arrest him, he fought with the officers injuring the right hand and elbow of one officer.

Police said they found numerous small wax bags of heroin on him.
The officer was treated and released by an area hospital.

Cain was arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead on chareges of second-degree assault, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, unlicensed operator and excessive tint on windows.
