New Hyde Park Fire Department Elects First Female Chief
Annie Mulholly elected first female Chief of New Hyde Park Fire Department.
A first for the department and the third in the county, Annie Mulloolly was recently elected as the first female chief of the New Hyde Park Fire Departmentrepresenting the Estates Engine Company located on Lakeville Road.
Chief Mullooly has a rich history, moving to New Hyde Park in 1987 and joining the department shortly thereafter. She started as a member of the Rescue company before moving to Estates Engine Company 3. She has moved up through the ranks, most recently serving as a captain in Estates before being elected chief. She ran unopposed with support from within the department.
Mullooly has served for 30 years in the department, starting as an EMT and then moving on to become a paramedic with the FDNY Emergency Medical Service, retired with the rank of Lieutenant and feels her experience will help her lead the department.

“Oh yeah, absolutely; I’ve done a lot of training with special operations and I’ve had a specialty for quite a few years in hazmat and with recue paramedics ,” she said in regards to applying her experience. “I was one of the supervisors of the rescue medics and trained in the same disciplines.”
Mullooly is a firm believer in doing your job and doing it well. She played down the focus of being the first female chief in the department saying that “I really don’t look at it as being the first female chief. I’m here to do a job...I think the members are making a bigger deal of it than I am.”

She gave praise to the chief staff she was joining, citing the extensive experience among the staff, adding that she looks to moving forward with an emphasis on training. She recalled an emergency call where a patient needed advanced life support and she had joined the ambulance to provide the care necessary.
She would always tell the rescue medics under her supervision “you come in, get the job done, and go home.”
While the New Hyde Park Department is a bit more community oriented Mullooly said “when the horn blows you put your game face on and go.”
