New Hyde Park Native Being Inducted into Hofstra Hall of Fame

Kathleen Mikowski was four-year lacrosse and three-year soccer player for Pride.

New Hyde Park native Kathleen Mikowski will be among the seven individuals and two teams that will be inducted into the Hofstra Sports Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2013 on April 13.

Mikowski played on the women's lacrosse team for the Pride for four years (2000-03) and was a three-year (1999-01) member of the women’s soccer team, being named a two-time All-American on the lacrosse field and is Hofstra’s all-time leading scorer with 240 points. She is just one of four players in the program’s history to earn All-America honors twice.

“I recruited Kathleen in her senior year of high school,” Hofstra Women’s Lacrosse coach Carie Bodo said in a statement. “She was by far the best high school girls lacrosse player on Long Island at the time. Everyone wanted her. At first she committed to Loyola and I was disappointed to say the least. Then out of nowhere I get a phone call asking if she can come to Hofstra because she didn't want to be away from her family. She used her athleticism, game sense and pure power to become one of the best players in the country.”
