On Tuesday, October 18th, 2011, the Nassau County Regional Emergency Medical Services Council held their annual awards dinner. This year, Manhasset-Lakeville F.D. Ambulance Unit Captain Lee Genser was selected as the recipient for the “EMS Leadership Award”. Lee was elected Captain in March 2010, becoming the youngest Captain in the history of the Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department.
One of many examples why Captain Genser was selected for the award was that upon taking office he immediately instituted a policy change that permitted both of Manhasset-Lakeville’s ambulances to respond to every EMS call, as opposed to only having one ambulance respond. This was put into effect to increase manpower on medical scenes, as well as to decrease response times in the event of a simultaneous medical call. This new policy proved to be invaluable when the second due ambulance was redirected from the original call it was responding to and diverted to a cardiac arrest, where the crew under the command of Captain Genser, effectuated a CPR save.
