New Hyde Park Bluedevils Beat Valley Stream

NHP Bluedevils uses big second inning to beat Valley Stream #2, 11-5

A six-run explosion in the second inning carried NHP Bluedevils to an 11-5 win in five innings over Valley Stream #2 at Valley Stream JHS on Saturday.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to five lead changes in the game.

NHP Bluedevils finally managed to grab the lead after a strong second inning. A wild pitch scored Zachary Reifschneider to give NHP Bluedevils the lead for good.

Mike Parasconda racked up two RBIs on one hit for NHP Bluedevils. Parasconda homered in his first at bat.

Even though Parasconda allowed five runs over three innings he still recorded the victory to push his fall record to 4 and 0. The NHP Bluedevils pitcher struck out five, walked five and surrendered six hits. Vincent Balletta was solid behind the plate.

Doug Obidienzo tossed two innings of relief without allowing a run, striking out four while giving up no hits and no walks.

The top of the first saw NHP Bluedevils take an early lead, 2-0. A blast by Parasconda started the inning off. NHP Bluedevils pushed more runs across when Anthony Pomara scored on an error.

NHP Bluedevils batted around in the second inning, Obidienzo, Reifschneider, Mike Thornton, loaded the bases for Luke Iandoli who battled back from 0 and 2 to work out a bases loaded walk for an RBI. Brennan Lee and Parasconda came the line moving with consecutive RBI walks as well.  Liam Gallagher added a SB and an RBI ground out.

NHP Bluedevils built upon its lead with two runs in the fifth. Back to back hits by Anthony Pomara and Niko Rullo plus heady base running by both players delivered the 2 runs in the inning.  Kyle Cajigas added a hit and 2 stolen bases for the Bluedevils.

The defensive play of the game came in the third inning that ended a potential big inning for Valley Stream. With two on and one out, VS player delivered a blast to left center to plate both runners, Brennan Lee chased down the drive and threw to Anthony Pomara who turned and fired a prefect strike to third basemen Thornton who tagged out the runner. Mike Thornton then followed that play up with his own web gem diving to his left and then firing a bullet to Niko Rullo at first to end the inning. The New Hyde Park Bluedevils finished the fall season 8 and 0 and since the summer, this team is an impressive 17 and 1.
