Three “Status of Women” service awards were presented at the May 19 meeting of Zonta Club of Long Island, held at the New Hyde Park. The awardees were the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, Mommas House, and Gateway Youth Outreach.
The Adelphi Breast Cancer Program, founded in 1980 by the Adelphi University School of Social Work, provides breast cancer support, information and advocacy for breast cancer patients throughout New York State. Momma’s House, located in Wantagh and celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is a home for young mothers aged 17 to 23 years and their babies. Gateway Youth Outreach, a program that prepares young women for jobs in the thoroughbred racing world.
The programs were presented with cash awards to help them in their work.
Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy.
