A Win Win for Austin Ward

Local wrestler took part in this Long Island-filmed movie.

Even though Chaminade sophomore and Garden City Park resident Austin Ward had to miss four of his trimester exams to film Win Win, Ward said that seeing himself on the big screen made it "well worth it."

Win Win is a movie directed by Thomas McCarthy involving a lawyer who is also a wrestling coach; many of the scenes were shot on Long Island.

"McCarthy couldn't have been nicer to me and I can't forget the craft services and the awesome food we got," Ward said.

Ward, who plays the role of Peter Molter in the movie, learned from his experiences filming that "being an actor isn't as easy as it looks," he said. "Even though I didn't have to remember any lines, we sometimes had to do upwards of 100 takes per scene and some of the scenes didn't even make it into the movie."

Ward wrestled on the junior high and junior varsity team at in seventh and eighth grade respectively. He has also wrestled for Chaminade in the 96 pound weight class last year and the 103 pound weight class this year. In the middle of that last season he wroke his wrist though.

Look for Ward and other Long Islanders in this movie. Ward was filmed in scenes that took place at Lawrence High School, Malverne High School, White Plains High School and Locust Valley High School.
