Project Independence to Send Zumba Video to 'Let’s Move' Campaign

Visitors to Tully Park Physical Activities Center in New Hyde Park might notice a movement afoot on any given Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. That's when nearly 50 seniors gather each week for North Hempstead's Project Independence Zumba dance-fitness class.

North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth took part in the class this week. And organizers will be submitting a video from this class to First Lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move” campaign, a program designed at motivating others to stay active and healthy.

Zumba is the most popular of the fitness programs offered by Project Independence. The class is taught by Margaret Gatzonis. For more information, call 311.
