The funeral for a Northwestern University student from Garden City Park will be held Monday morning.
The family of Harsha Maddula will hold a wake from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Park Funeral Chapel in Garden City Park before a scheduled cremation. A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. followed by cremation with committal at Fresh Pond Crematory in Middle Village.
Maddula, a sophomore at the Illinois university, was first reported missing last weekend after leaving an on-campus party before his body was recovered Thursday night in a harbor on Lake Michigan.
An autopsy report from the Cook County medical examiner’s office indicated that Maddula had drowned, but did not find any evidence of foul play. Maddula had been recently diagnosed with diabetes and the autopsy found no evidence of insulin in his body, but alcohol was reportedly present in his bloodstream.
