Learning about Menopause at North Shore LIJ

A group of women listened to a lecture and asked questions recently.

Approximately 30 women listened to what they can expect from menopause and how they can help mitigate the symptoms during the inaugural group of the LIJ Health Connection on Sept. 16 at .

"It's all about taking care of yourself," explained Dr. Helen Greco, gynecology chief at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Greco went through some of the symptoms with the group, including mood swings, memory loss and hot flashes.

"Menopause is not a disease; it's not going to kill you," Greco said, adding, "It will make you and everyone else around you quite miserable."

Greco warned women that there is a lot of misinformation out there about menopause and that they need to make sure treatments are tailored to their specific needs rather than accepting something that is good for a friend or family member.
