Making Zeppoli at the Annual Cellini Lodge Festival

Celini Lodge member Vincent Capasso shows Patch how the treats are made each year.

As much as Vincent Capasso has been a staple on the icehockey rink as a coach for the  varsity squad, each August he can be found under the rather large white tent at the  in  making a crowd favorite: zeppoli.

The fried balls of dough are a , drawing huge crowds each year to the booth where they are made.

This year Capasso and his crew allowed Patch cameras behind the table to see how the iconic treats are made.

Due to Hurricane Irene, the festival will be closing on Friday, making tonight the last night that you can get a taste of the famous zeppoli.

Note: According to Town of North Hempstead spokesman Collin Nash, the feast is cancelled tonight, but the chairperson of the feast says it is still on.
