Memorial Day Fireworks in North Hempstead

Honoring fallen soldiers and welcoming in summer.

Officially, Memorial Day weekend give residents the chance to honor those who died serving our nation. Unofficially, it’s the start of summer.  Weather permitting, both elements will figure into the weekend.

On Saturday, May 28, resident will flock down to the North Hempstead Beach Park for the annual fireworks display at by Bay Fireworks.

Calling it a “great evening for everyone,” Supervisor says the event will feature “live music, brilliant fireworks and a rousing tribute to our fallen soldiers.”

According to the Town, memorial service participants include , Nassau County and New York State officials, a U.S. Marine Corps color guard, the Nassau County Police Pipe Band, the Volunteers of America firing detail, and local veterans organizations.

Also on the program: live music with Glass Houses, playing the music of Billy Joel,  and Early Elton, playing the music of Elton John.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. There’s a $5 parking free to enter the event, and should the onsite lots fill up, there will be free shuttle service to the park from other lots nearby.

As for a Memorial Day parade, it will take place in New Hyde Park on Saturday at 10 a.m. and the route can be found at http://www.vnhp.org/.
