New Hyde Park Holds Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

This event was filled with a magician, musicians and Santa.

The Village of New Hyde Park held their yearly tree lighting ceremony in front of on Saturday.

The event started with a performance by The Magic of Amore at 3:30 p.m. The magician brought up members of the 150-person audience to participate in the tricks. Kay Farrell was one of those participants.

"It's a great feeling to see everyone and to see the kids happy," Farrell said. "Everyone looks forward to this event."

After the magic tricks, Mayor Daniel Petruccio thanked everyone for coming and he thanked the State Bank of Long Island for sponsoring the event.

The chorus and band sang and performed tunes such as Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Joy to the World and Silent Night for the crowd.

"It's good for the community to see the kids in action doing good things," said Robert McKinnon, head of the chorus.

Noel Monat, the head of the band, echoed that sentiment and added, "The kids enjoy doing it."

Last year, due to rain, the band and chorus performed inside the Marcus Christ Community Center. McKinnon said that performing inside might become their new tradition.

The night ended with the crowd coming outside to meet and take photographs with Santa and many members of the Village board lighting up the tree.

The newly certified State Senator also stopped by the tree lighting.
