Smart Shopping with the Temple Tikvah Sisterhood

The Sisterhood participates in a Lord & Taylor fundraising event.

The Sisterhood participated in their third fundraising shopping event at the Garden City Lord & Taylor Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., which raised funds for the Sisterhood.

The all-day event, organized by Carol Reiter, cost $5.00 a ticket and all the proceeds from the sales went to the Sisterhood.

“Whoever buys a ticket can go shopping and they get 20 percent off one item and 15 percent off just about everything else including cosmetics and fragrances which never go on sale,” Reiter said.

Store hours were extended specifically for the fundraiser and special events and prizes were offered throughout the day.

“It is a way for each of the organizations to try to make some money because the money for the sale of the tickets all goes to the organization and if your organization has more than 50 people show up, then you can also get a piece of the door action,” Reiter said.

National artists from top cosmetics companies were also present and gave makeovers. There was also a cookbook author, experts in clothing fittings, complimentary monogramming from Ralph Lauren, Food Network star Aaron McCargo, complimentary cigars and cocktails and balloon characters and activities for the kids were also present.

“We average about 100 tickets, so we make about $500, so it’s relatively easy money,” Reiter said. “The idea is to get people involved and buy a ticket. If they don’t want to go shopping, give it to somebody as a gift or just make a donation.”

As the Lord & Taylor fundraising saying goes, “Shop smart, do good!”
