Wounded Cop from Garden City Park Rings Wall St. Bell [VIDEO]

NYPD Detective Kevin Brennan opens February 29 session of stock exchange.

Garden City Park resident Kevin Brennan has survived a gunshot wound to the head. He will see his baby daughter Maeve grow up. He has met New York . Now he can also cross off ringing the opening bell on Wall Street off his bucket list.

The NYPD detective pushed the button to signal the start of trading for the February 29 session of the New York Stock Exchange as he continues his recovery after while trying to apprehend a criminal in Brooklyn on the night of January 31.

“You could say it was surreal,” Brennan told Newsday. “It was just a great feeling, looking down and seeing all the traders applauding.”

Brennan, 28, is still undergoing rehabilitation, including electrostimulation for muscles damaged in the shooting.

The visit was arranged by stock exchange security chief Brian Gimlett, who said “(it) was a great opportunity to identify the personal sacrifices police officers make to the people of the city.”
