Jeff Webb Demonstration at Clinton G. Martin Recreation Center

Art League of Nassau County hosts pastel artist.

Jeff Webb was the guest demonstrator at the September Art League of Nassau County meeting held at Clinton G. Martin Recreation Center on Sept. 23; he showed the audience how he draws a pastel portrait vignette.

When drawing in pastels, most artists don’t use bright colors the way Webb does. It’s startling to see dazzling pinks and oranges placed on top of equally strong blues. But for all these intense colors, Webb’s drawings finish up quite differently.

Webb remarked, “Everyone’s got their own ‘swing,’” in regard to color choices. “This is a variation on the Impressionist colors. When the pastel of Chris [the model] is done it will look translucent!”

Webb used various pastel brands, Sennelier, Schminke and Nu-Pastel on Colourfix coated pastel paper from Art Spectrum for his demonstration.

Barbara Gulotta, ALNC member commented, “It’s beautiful work. I’ve seen him demonstrate a few times,” as Webb used a charcoal pencil to blend the colors.
