North Hempstead Beach Park Features Oldies Concert

The Town of North Hempstead hosted an oldies music double feature on Sunday.

As part of the summer concert series, North Hempstead Beach Park hosted an hour and a half-long, oldies music double feature on Sunday.

The concert opened with the NY Exceptions, who played classics like “Shout” and “Under the Boardwalk.”  The featured band, Jay Siegel and The Tokens, famous for hit song “The Lions Sleep Tonight” also performed past smash hits.

Audience members sat in beach chairs in the shady grass to enjoy the show. However, the concert also brought seniors and patrons of the beach to their feet. Couples danced in front of the promenade while others formed a line at the side of the stage.

“This is music that I danced to at my school dances,” said Rose Marsh, 60, of Roslyn. “All of these songs bring back special memories for me. I love listening and dancing to them, I couldn't ask for more."

Jill Bradley of Port Washington brought her mother, Mary, to enjoy the afternoon show.

“I remember growing up with her playing me this music,” Bradley said as she watched her mother dance in front of the stage. “I knew I had to bring her. It's a great way to be outside, listen to some music and have a nice summer day."

North Hempstead Beach Park will be holding free concerts throughout August. For more information, go to www.northhempstead.org
