Business Q&A: Park City Diner

Park City Diner owner sits down for a talk about opening a new diner.

After being an empty parking lot for several years, the vacant building that was  on Herricks Road in Garden City Park on the Mineola border has found a new set of owners Tony Christoforou, Dino Glykos and Fitos Andreou, who have reopened the restaurant under the banner of the . We recently sat down with Andreou about the new venture.

Is there anything you feel that would help your business?

So far, nothing. We’re only 6 weeks old. The only thing is I wish we had a little more parking maybe in the streets because parking is kind of scarce here because of the industrial things around, otherwise its good.

There are a lot of diners on Long Island. Does the competition scare you?

No, we built a great place here. Our dinners are like restaurant type dinners. They’re not your basic diner meals and our prices are below most diners. We have a bar in the back and a brick oven pizza, just something to differentiate us from the rest of the diners.

What made you want to open a diner?

Me and my two partners have been doing it our whole lives. My partner Dino and my partner Tony, we’ve been involved in the restaurant business since we’ve been young, working with our dads, so we started there.

Why should patrons come here over other diners?

I think we have a great spot. We’re in the middle of five big towns towns. We love this spot.

How has the economy affected the diner business?

I think it scares everyone. Somebody isn’t going to order a bacon, egg and cheese on a roll, they may just order an egg and cheese on a roll. They’ll cut something back but people always need to eat something.
