Empty in New Hyde Park: Former Jericho Pet Store

Tell us what you would like to see in the vacant store.

Walk down Jericho Turnpike or Hillside Avenue these days and you will notice many desolate store fronts adorned with “For Rent” or “Available” signs, an indication of the hard times the area — and country — are facing.

Over the next few months, New Hyde Park Patch will spotlight these vacant properties to foster discussion in the community on what can, should and could be done to rehab these abandoned places.

Today, we start with the former Pets of New Hyde Park on Jericho Turnpike, which used to sell puppies, kittens, exotic pets, reptiles, fish and supplies.

The Pet store has been vacant for a couple of years now without any sign of renovation. For a $23,836 per month price tag ($14 NET), renters get 15,000 square feet ground and 15,000 square feet above office space.

Floral Management Realty Corporation says the space is ideal for something like a Checkers Drive-In Restaurant.
