Marshall's Mega Shoe Store Steps Into Town

New Hyde Park's latest shoe store creates excitement among shoppers.

Shoe lovers brace yourselves; New Hyde Park just got one step closer to making your shoe-buying experience even more enjoyable.

The Lake Success Shopping Center added to its chain of retail stores with the grand opening of Marshall’s Shoe MegaShop on March 3. The store is located at 1484 Union Turnpike.

The store was bustling with shoppers, browsers and onlookers for most of the day and the flow of traffic continued on throughout the rest of the grand opening weekend.

Although staff members were not allowed to comment because of company policy, many expressed excitement with the response from the community and the turnout of people that continuously flocked the store.

Lisa Mauyer and her daughter Allie of New Hyde Park were especially thrilled to learn that the shoe megastore was coming to the neighborhood.

“We love shoes and it is so good to find this kind of selection at these prices right here,” Mauyer said.

Marshalls has become known for bringing designer names at discounted prices. While most of their stores carry a wide range of clothing, shoes, accessories and household items, the Shoe MegaShop is exactly as the name suggests, a mega shop of shoes. There is a sizeable bag and accessory department but from the moment you walk through the doors, isles and isles of shoes greet you.

“I shop at Marshalls all the time,” said Gina Thompson, “but never have I seen quite a selection of shoes like this.”

While most customers were elated at the arrival of the store, New Hyde Parkers can also be grateful for the number of jobs the MegaShop has created in the area. Although New Hyde Park Patch was unable to get an exact number from the store manager because of the corporate policy, there were nearly 30 employees on the floor, manning the registers and tending to inventory.

In addition to the enormous selection of shoes, the store also boasts three flat screen televisions for customers’ entertainment. The children’s department is decorated for little ones and kids programming is continuously streamed on its own television.

“I love that about this store, it is great that they even thought about the little shoppers,” said Carol Spenser, a mom of three from Bellerose.

This is the only Marshalls Shoe MegaShop in the area. The next shoe-only store is Pelham Manor, New York. When asked why executives decided to bring the shoe megastore to New Hyde Park, media relations representative Thea Houghton said, “New Hyde Park fit the demographic that Marshalls considers before any new store opening.  We look for areas where shoppers are fashion-conscious, yet value-conscious.”

Marshalls Shoe MegaShop is now open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m to 9:30 p.m and Sundays 11 a.m to 8 p.m.
