Mark Laytin and other chamber officers sworn in at annual gala dinner.

On Thursday night the Greater New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce held its annual installation dinner and gala at the New Hyde Park Inn.

The chamber is looking forward to another year of supporting the many existing and several new businesses of the greater New Hyde Park area.

The first meeting of the year included the swearing in of incumbent President Mark Laytin to another term and the officers of the Chamber by Legislator Richard Nicolello, R-New Hyde Park.

“I want to congratulate the incoming board of directors as well as the officers staying on,” Nicolello said. “Now more than ever it is a tremendous asset to the Greater New Hyde Park community.”

The Chamber also thanked Nicolello for his 18 years of service to the community and on his new role as deputy presiding officer within the legislature.

Diane Colonna, representing the Special Olympics, gave a brief speech at the beginning of the meeting, stressing the importance and constant support of their athletes as a year long effort, not just an annual event that many people perceive it as. There is an upcoming Polar Plunge on March 2.

The chamber also noted its new website which it hopes will help to represent a more prevalent role in the community.

“They are raising more money, they’re contributing more money to different causes, from the Gladiator Fund to other charitable causes in the community,” Legis. Nicolello said. “They’re doing a great job.”

Added Laytin: “we’re looking forward to another great year in support of the businesses of New Hyde Park.”
