New Proposal to Reopen Restaurant Near Spring Rock Golf Center

A new management team is devising a plan to get the North Hempstead Town Board's approval.

The vacant restaurant near Spring Rock Golf Center at 377 Denton Avenue is slowly moving its way toward possibly being re-opened under new management.  Hanmari Inc., a current tenant at the property, wishes to reopen the restaurant and possibly include a catering service.

At the Meeting on Nov. 16, Lisa Cairo of Jaspan Schlesinger LLP spoke to the board about their plans.  The board was unaware of the restaurant's intentions to include a catering service.  Due to insufficient information provided to the board, they asked for the matter to be taken up again at the Dec. 14 board meeting. "We need to have a full plan to look at in order to make an informed decision," said Councilman Thomas K. Dwyer.

The reason that a plan was presented without the catering option included was because, "The applicant is currently reconsidering the proposed catering option of the restaurant," Cairo said. She added that the restaurant management's current plan of action is to, "schedule meetings with town representatives and the local councilperson to discuss what if any type of restaurant establishment use may be acceptable at this location."

The restaurant management's application was denied last year by the Building Department.

"The previous restaurant was closed down because a full-service restaurant was not a permitted use within the zoning district," said Councilwoman Lee Seeman. "The only approval they had was for a snack bar or concession stand."

Companies such as Lowe's and Home Depot have expressed interest in building on the property, however neither has completed an application.
