U.S. News & World Report released the results of its 2012-13 national survey of the country’s best hospitals and children’s hospitals on June 5.
As a whole, was ranked as the No. 19 hospital in New York State and the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center also achieved nationally ranked status.
The children’s hospital report surveyed more than 178 children’s hospitals, obtaining data in 10 areas and asking 150 pediatric specialists in each specialty where they would send the children who were the most seriously ill.
The pediatric categories surveyed were cancer, cardiology & heart surgery, diabetes & endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.
For Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center at North Shore-LIJ, the national rankings are as follows:
- diabetes and endocrinology – No. 47
- neonatology – No. 35
- nephrology – No. 46
- neurology and neurosurgery – No. 48
- pulmonology – No. 29
- urology – No. 16
North Shore as a whole achieved silver rankings in the areas of cancer, ear, nose & throat, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology & neurosurgery, psychiatry and urology.
