Vacant Café Restaurant Caldas in Garden City Park [POLL]

Restaurant and bar that served up Portuguese cuisine is closed.

Café Restaurante Caldas, which offered up such Portuguese pleasures as flaming chourico (chorizo) doused with Portuguese brandy; whole grilled sea bass, and “bacalao a bras,” a hash of scrambled eggs, salted cod and  potatoes, is for sale or lease.

Greiner-Maltz is the exclusive broker of this property, which still retains the red and green awning with white lettering.

The business is located in Garden City Park on Jericho Turnpike near Sixth Avenue, amid other restaurants and delis, as well as industrial businesses. In Monday’s Patch question, we want to hear what business you would like to see fill the vacancy? What store do you think would work in this location – a restaurant, bank, office? Or something else?

Patch will regularly spotlight vacant commercial properties in effort to initiate a discussion within the community about alternative uses for these abandoned places. If you’d like to know more about a specific property, please also comment below.

Home Goods but not a 99Cent Store. I have always felt that the vacant Pergament
building would be a perfect local for Home Goods, Inc. We don't have any store like that in the area.

The vacant Pergaments lot should be made into a Park. You dont live by the building and Im sure you wouldnt want a Home Goods if you did. Lets see a an additional 5000 cars a month on your block be a great idea. When Pergaments went out it was a blessing for the neighborhood. That intersection is already a total nightmare and when school is in session its even worse. The whole idea behind progress is its way too regressive!

From Facebook: Barb Wittstruck – A really nice ice cream parlor. Some place where you can take the kids and sit down and have ice cream/shakes/sundaes!
