Dec. 23-25: Holiday Weekend Edition

Happy Holidays from the New Hyde Park Patch!

Sometimes we forget how important and beautiful the holidays can be with the stress of buying the perfect gift or planning a holiday party. 

This weekend, Hanukah continues with its fourth, fifth and sixth nights, and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will be celebrated by many in the community.

Here are some things you can do over this weekend, but whatever it is you choose to do, we hope you have a wonderful, stress-free holiday fills with lots of love and laughter.

1. Attend one of the many holiday services at various churches and synagogues, which can be found .

2. Go see a movie at the . Opening Christmas Day are the films War Horse and The Darkest Hour. You could also check out We Bought a Zoo or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

3. Stay home and have a Christmas-movie-marathon. Snuggle up in your bed or on the couch with the family and some hot cocoa and watch classics like Frosty the Snowman and Home Alone, or contemporary movies like Four Christmases and Fred Claus.

4. Here’s an obvious one: Open presents! One of the greatest feelings is ripping open a box of paper with a bow, but you know what’s even better? Giving. Families who are less fortunate are still in need this holiday season, and you can provide essentials for them by dropping off items at the .

5. Just spend time with the extended family you don’t get to see that often — or the family you fortunately get to see every day. Laugh. Cry. Make memories you’ll never forget.
