Here are some events happening around New Hyde Park.

Happy Birthday New Hyde Park Patch; We're one-year old today! 

Here's what you need to know today:

1. Your daily forecast, courtesy of Weather.com, calls for a whole lot of rain. If you still haven’t put up those Christmas lights yet, today isn’t the day to do it. Got an umbrella and some boots? If so, be sure to grab them before heading out of the house today.

2. The Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce and Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano will be participating in a press conference at 10:30 a.m. at Umberto’s Pizzeria & Restaurant. The press conference is about the Buy Locally Campaign. Contact Ed Powers at ewap@optimum.net for more information.

4. The New Hyde Park is holding their annual Christmas Ceremony called "Light Up for Christ" at 7:30 p.m. Grand Knight Brian Ennis said they kick off the Christmas season by lighting the Christmas Tree and singing Christmas Carols. Legislator Richard Niclello, New York State K of C Deputy Sal Restivo and possibly Sen. Jack Martins will be in attendance.
