Francis E. Raia, M.D., of Peconic, N.Y., formerly of New Hyde Park, NY, passed away on Feb. 23, 2013 at the age of 85.
Rais received his undergraduate degree from St. John’s University in 1950 and his medical degree from Bologna University in 1955. He was a respected cardiologist and teacher for more than 50 years. He served as Chief of Cardiology for the Catholic Medical Center of New York.
A committed physician and astute clinician whose passion for helping his patients was matched only by his patients' reverence and respect for him. A critical thinker, voracious reader, avid golfer and great friend to many.
He was the husband of Joan; father of Frank (Katie) Linda (David) and Carol (Tom) and predeceased by Elaine; grandfather of Paris, Thomas, Anne, Connor, Jane, Kate and Brigid; brother of John, Marguerite and the late Paul.
