POLL: Winning the Mega $540 Million Jackpot

New Hyde Park residents have a taste for the lottery, or at least the $540 million-plus Mega Millions jackpot that is being drawn Friday night.

Behind the counter at the in the King Kullen shopping center on Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park, workers reported a steady stream of lottery players drawn in by the record-breaking jackpot.

“They spend $5, now they spend $10; they spend $10, now they spend $20,” a store employee said, reporting one person dropped $200 on tickets Thursday morning while a group of people had come in to purchase $170 worth of tickets that morning as well.

“It’s a positive bet, you can win more money” one man at the counter said as he plunked down $20 for tickets for the record-setting jackpot drawing.

Employee Prit Singh said that if history remains true he expects “more than double or triple” the amount of customers on Friday, the date of the drawing to purchase tickets.
