Severe weather overnight knocked out power to much of Long Island, with New Hyde Park seeing its effects in the form of widespread power outages.
The Long Island Power Authority reports more than 2,500 customers were without power in the Town of North Hempstead as of 8:15 a.m. Thursday, including 504 in North New Hyde Park and another 12 in New Hyde Park.
The National Weather Service reported gusts of 60 mph, which could bring down tree limbs or whole trees.
A high wind advisory is in effect for northern Nassau County through 6 p.m. Thursday.
