Question of the Day: King Kullen Opening

Will you be there?

King Kullen will be opening where Pathmark was previously on Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park on Friday.

Will you be there? Do you anticipate shopping there regularly? What are you looking forward to most?

I stopped in today on my way back from running errands and found it to be a fantastic store. Well laid out and much more room than the old store on Jericho Tpke. I like the idea that people can leave their orders at the deli counter and they announce when they are ready to pick up. I do think that the parking lot should have had a little wider lanes between the rows of parkking spaces. Otherwise, kudos to the management and best wishes for a long prosperous business.

Thank you for the comment, Carolyn. I agree that the parking lot was a little congested this morning.

No way. This new King Kullen is just terrible. Too much ethnic food, aisles are not nearly as wide as the old store, and the parking lot is chaos. I think King Kullen is extremely short-sighted for moving the old store to this location. The old New Hyde Park store was very nice, quiet and had a real "neighborhood" feel to it. However, in the grandiose age of opulence that we are living in now, a supermarket that isn't the size of an airplane hanger just doesn't cut it any longer. Everyone I've talked to who was a customer at the old store is not at all happy, and King Kullen has lost my business. They just abandoned New Hyde Park, Floral Park, Stewart Manor, Bellerose, and every community west of New Hyde park on the Jericho Turnpike corridor.

By the way, I would encourage anyone who reads this web page, and who used to shop at the New Hyde Park King Kullen to check out Best Yet market on Hillside Avenue in New Hyde Park, as well as Key Food on Covert Avenue. Both markets are very nice, and quite similar to the old King Kullen. I don't think King Kullen should be encouraged with continued business in their new crummy store. They only opened the Garden City Park store so they could dance on the corpse of the competition, and try to make Path Mark look stupid for vacating. Meanwhile, they closed a perfectly good, calm, and friendly supermarket that many, many people have been going to for almost 15 years so they could cynically cater to the area's changing demographic. I guarantee this store will be doing much less business than the old New Hyde Park store within a year. After all, as I said, they lost my business, and I've been spending $200 per week in the New Hyde Park store since 1999.

Where is that "Bet Yet" store? Closer to East Williston or to NYC? By the way, King K and PMark are all part of the same conglomerate. All those guys in the suits the first couple of weeks were just playing chess by moving a store here and a store there... I'm already shopping in the little stores that I haven't visited before to avoid the miles of walking in the big former-PMark building! I'm a quick-in and quick-out kind of guy.
