Sweet but also shy. That's how his caretakers at North Shore Animal League America in Port Washington describe Emilio, a mill-dog rescue.

Emilio is an affectionate and energetic young male who needs a home. If you are looking to adopt a dog who is affectionate, loyal and adventurous, Emilio may be a perfect fit for your family.

Emilio is good with kids of all ages. He likes to be held, and enjoys being around other dogs. He would do well in a calm and quiet home where he can relax, his caretakers say.

Owning and caring for a dog can be good for your health, and good for your family. According to NSALA, studies that caring for a pet can decrease blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride levels and help to lessen depression, anxiety and loneliness. What's more it teaches children responsibility and compassion.

So, stop by NSALA and meet Emilio, or some of the other animals. Since 1944, NSALA has saved nearly 1 million dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens. NSALA is open 365 days a year, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
