Belmont Jockeys Visit Ronald McDonald House

There was no Triple Crown at this year’s Belmont Stakes, but the festivities around the big day brought plenty of smiles for families at the Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.

On Friday morning, just one day before the big race, jockeys travel to RMH-LI in New Hyde Park, to mingle with children and families staying at the House. Clad in their colorful silks, the riders posed for photographs and distributed gifts of personally autographed riding goggles and hats.

The event was part of an annual collaboration with the New York Racing Association – Jockey Day.

Visiting jockeys included Taylor Rice, Rosario Montanez, Manny Chavez, Javier Castellano, Jose Ortiz, Irad Ortiz, and Maylan Studart. Joining them were staff members from the New York Equestrian Center who helped with the pony rides that were provided that day for the children staying at the House.

“This is a great event for the children and families we serve,” said Matthew Campo, RMH-LI Executive Director. “It is a fun day that everyone looks forward to. Meeting the jockeys is always an exciting opportunity for our resident families.”
