New Hyde Park Holds 2013 Christmas Tree Lighting

About 50 New Hyde Park Village youth come out for annual holiday show and tree lighting.

The Village of New Hyde Park held their annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony on December 7 at the village hall, bringing residents across all age groups together to brave the Friday night chill.

The annual event which was attended by about 50 village youths in Marcus Christ Hall with entertainment provided by The Magic of Amore for young childrenthat also got some of the adults into the act. Kathy Richards from Little Treasures Preschool handed out little snowmen and reindeer for the children. Cookies and hot coffee were served during the show and the following performances.

New Hyde Park Memorial High School lent their Chambers Singers and a small selection of band members to the ceremony. Both groups performed classic Christmas songs.

The children did not have long to wait as promptly at 7 p.m. with help from the New Hyde Park Fire Department, Santa Claus arrived to assist mayor Robert Lofaro and deputy mayor Lawrence Montreuil and members of the chamber of commerce to flip the switch on the tree illuminating the spruce and thanking the village business supporters for making the night possible as residents crowded around the tree for a few more brief moments to meet Santa.
