New Hyde Park Memorial High School lent their Chambers Singers and a small selection of band members to the ceremony. Both groups performed classic Christmas songs.

The children did not have long to wait as promptly at 7 p.m. with help from the New Hyde Park Fire Department, Santa Claus arrived to assist mayor Robert Lofaro and deputy mayor Lawrence Montreuil and members of the chamber of commerce to flip the switch on the tree illuminating the spruce and thanking the village business supporters for making the night possible as residents crowded around the tree for a few more brief moments to meet Santa.
