North Hempstead Needs Senior Housing – Build Some at Roslyn Country Club

Town of North Hempstead should build senior housing at the Roslyn country Club and re-open the Alvin Petrus Park.

I was so happy to see that the Town of North Hempstead is going to purchase the Roslyn Country Club.

It’s great news because the Town of North Hempstead now has extra land to build much needed senior housing.

In Port Washington, the Town of North Hempstead was looking to build senior housing on the site of a 60 year old park called the Alvin Petrus Park. One day the Town of North Hempstead put of a fence closing this park off to the 250 children that live in the area. This fence remains up today and these children have to play in a parking lot.

Please sign our online petition to re-open this park.

Come to the town hall board meeting on July 31 and tell Mr. Kaiman and the town board that senior housing is just what is needed in Roslyn and that the children in Port Washignton should have their park back.

Let’s all congratulate Supervisor Jon Kaiman for figuring out how to house seniors and reopen a park with one purchase of land.

Would love to hear everyones comments.

The NY Times had an article recently about the new condo development at the old Knickerbocker Yacht Club. If the Town of North Hempstead was serious about building housing, why didn't they pursue this piece of property. And why not buy that land on lower Main Street next to the tire store and across from the PAL field. Open the Alvan Petrus Park and find other parcels in town for your housing. How about some vacant lots on Chanel Drive. It seems to me their are parcels that can be developed beside the tiny 1.5 acres set aside for the Alvan Petrus Park.
