Couple's Donation Improves Pediatric Emergency Care at Hospital
Former New Hyde Park couple bequeaths a gift that allows hospital to create a pediatric fast-track in the Emergency Department.

The late Philip and Carolyn McGrath of South Setauket have left a donation of $410,000 to Mather Hospital, which the hospital used to upgrade its Emergency Department to accommodate a pediatric fast-track, the hospital announced Monday.
The couple, who formerly lived in New Hyde Park, previously left a major donation to Stony Brook Long Island Children's Hospital earlier this year.
A hospital spokesman said the gift will fund renovations to the Emergency Department that will enhance pediatric care, including new ceilings and lighting, refurbished walls, automatic sliding doors, new medical supply systems, and a new nutritional and medication area and nursing station. The gift will also include new equipment such as a warmer for blankets and fluids as well as new TVs.
The McGraths' gift will also fund additional education for nurses and other staff in pediatric emergency care.
The new pediatric facility features artwork depicting Port Jefferson Harbor and a local beach, contributed by artist Melissa Hin from the Brookhaven Arts council. The renovations were unveiled at a July 22 ceremony.
