New Hyde Park Boy Scouts Receive Religious Awards

A total of 13 scouts from Troop 298 receive religious scouting emblems.

The 56th annual Boy Scout convocation was held on Sept. 15 at Saint Agnes Cathedral by Bishop Robert J. Brennan with a total of 13 scouts and one leader from Holy Spirit Church Parish/Boy Scout Troop 298 among 160 scouts from Nassau/Suffolk that received religious awards.

Scouts Gregory Burger, Daniel Celic, Matthew D’Amico, Wade Fitzgerald, Connor Garvin, James Garvin, Joesph Jonas, Robert Pomara and Michael Sokol received the Ad Altare Dei Emblem, this emblem, recognizing a scout's advancement in the spiritual content of scouting and to help fully live by the Boy Scout Promise and Law. The program strongly emphasizes the sacraments of the Christian faith.

Scouts John Dunn, Thomas Dunn, Anthony Pallisco and James Sokol received the Pope Pius XII Emblem. This program was developed to help the youth with growing concern with the world of God as well as the world humanity.

Scout Eamonn Lennon received the Bishops Emblem, this award is by nomination and giving to a scout that shows outstanding service to his church, community and demonstrates the 12-points of scout law, meaning “a scout is reverent.”

Troop Chaplain Tony Lennon received the Bronze Pelican Emblem, this is also by nomination, given to a exemplary adult who has significant out standing contribution to the spiritual development of the Catholic youth and in good standing in their respective positions in scouting and in their faith communities.
