Changes in New Hyde Park

In the last 28 years since moving to New Hyde Park, the area has undergone a transformation.

When I moved to New Hyde Park with my husband in 1983, we had two young children to raise and had expectations that we were coming to live in paradise -- beautiful suburbs, green grass, clean streets.

Fast forward 28 years and the picture is slightly different. As a so-called "civic activist," I have seen many changes both positive and negative, such as: the creation of the Water Authority of Western Nassau County; the reduction of the speed limit on Lakeville and New Hyde Park Roads; the expansion of Parkville Library, which is again going to go through a transformation, to name a few. There are many more.

These are all the result of dedicated, selfless, silent civic leaders who are constantly “battling” to maintain the status-quo and even try to slightly improve it every day. I am proud to be called a civic activist and will continue working to make New Hyde Park the best it should be. Can you name something that has changed for you in New Hyde Park?
