If It Sounds Too Good To Be True, It Probably Is!

The Town is going to condemn by eminent domain a 10 acre site in Roslyn Heights and it is only going to cost a taxpayer $4 per year. Does that sound too good to be true? It probably is.

You received the recent mailing from  describing the pool and open space acquisition in Roslyn Heights. The Town states they are going to condemn, through eminent domain, a 10 acre parcel in Roslyn Heights (that means they are going to take someone's property, because the neighbors don't like the way it has been maintained and have been complaining for a long time).

This mailing states "ALL COSTS FOR PURCHASE AND IMPROVEMENTS (DEBT SERVICE) AND OPERATIONS WILL BE PAID FOR BY USER FEES OR OVERALL FACILITY," which sounds too good to be true.

Can the Town guarantee it won't cost the taxpayer more than $4 yearly as the mailing says? What happens when there aren't enough users to cover the expenses? The taxpayer will foot the bill. Does the term taxpayer mean per person or per household? Can the Town guarantee they will get grants to purchase an exclusive upscale country club that has fallen into disrepair? Will the federal government or New York State hand the Town millions to purchase this luxury playground for the elite?

July 12 at 7:30 pm is the Town board meeting for the vote. Attend this meeting to express your opinion. Ask the Town to create a special park district so that the residents who are complaining have a private park district supported by their money, not yours.
