Kaiman Delivers a Package to County Comptroller Maragos

Residents of Town wonder why the Town won't allow the audit of Clinton G. Martin Park.

We do wonder if the documents sent had a bow on them. Supervisor Kaiman sent a photographer, spokespeople and a package with “documents” for the Clinton G. Martin Park District on Wednesday, March 13, to Nassau County Comptroller’s office. He claims these are the financial records the comptroller’s office is seeking in a financial audit.

Which records has the town chosen to send? Why doesn’t the Town drop the appeal and allow the County to come in and audit the Park District? This is so puzzling to me…why would the Town refuse to honor subpoenas that have been upheld in both lower court and the Appellate Division in New York State? If there is nothing to hide, why doesn’t the Town allow Nassau County Comptroller Maragos to do his job? If the town is willing to send records, then why not allow the county review all the financial records, not just the ones that are “cherry-picked?”

Another question to ponder: Why does the Town Board allow the expenditure of hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal bills from special counsel Richard Finkel (he is an ex-attorney of the town and resigned right before the decision came from the lower court……and then was hired to represent the town)? Is the Town Board so fearful of the current administration that they won't challenge  this appeal which will cost hundreds of thousands of taxpayer money? Doesn't the Town Board have any authority to put a stop to this? Or, do they all agree with perpetuating the fight against the audit?
