Reasons for Special Taxing District For Roslyn Country Club

The only fair way for the Town of North Hempstead to acquire the Roslyn Country Club is to create a special tax district and residents in the community can pay for it.

I have been reading the responses to two of the blogs I posted about the Town of North Hempstead current administration proposing the purchase/acquisition/seizure of the private country club in Roslyn Club area. They are interesting and I feel I must clarify my position for creating a special taxing district.

This property will never, never be revenue neutral. It would have to cost more than $2,000 annually just to finance the debt that will be incurred, unless the number of memberships ($1,500 @ 1,000 members = $1,500,000) are higher which I don't forsee.

Clinton G. Martin Pool is a special tax district, paid for by taxes in New Hyde Park (we are not getting any money from the Town of North Hempstead other than $15,000 rent on the building they operate and own and we suggest is maintained at the park district's cost by the way). The 2012 budget for CGM is $1,150,000 just for upkeep -- that is just for the daily operational expenses.

I stand by my original premise -- this should be a special taxing district like New Hyde Park and the debt should not put on the backs of the taxpayers. The current administration leaders can't be in touch with the taxpayers if they continue to support this.
