Carol Cecelia Harr (Welser), 86, Sewanhaka Alum

Sewanhaka High School graduate passed away on Nov. 8, 2012.

Carol Cecelia Harr (Welser) passed away on Nov. 8, 2012 at the age of 86 in the home of her daughter in Virginia Beach, surrounded by loving family members.

She was born July 15, 1926 in Columbus, OH as one of five children of William and Sarah Welser. The family moved to New York in 1940 and after graduation from Sewanhaka High School, she worked for Metropolitan Insurance Company in New York City.

She was married in March 1948 to Warren Harr. Together they “served in the U.S. Air Force” and raised a family while being assigned to bases in New York, England, Nebraska, and Virginia. She also supported the family while he was on a remote assignment to Vietnam.

She and her husband made Williamsburg, VA their home in 1972 prior to CMSgt Harr’s 1974 retirement from the Air Force. Mrs. Harr was preceded in death by her husband Warren (May 22, 2009). They had been married 61 years.

They are survived by two sons: Gregory, living in Oregon; and Jeffery and his wife Amy in New York; their daughter Kim Magary and her husband Bryan Magary from Virginia Beach; and their three grandchildren: Michael Outlaw, Emily Magary and Megan Magary.

The family has asked that memorial donations be made in her name to the American Red Cross or the United Services Organization (USO).
