Patrick William Dent, 81, New Hyde Park Memorial Teacher

Former assistant for security at Shea Stadium passed away on Jan. 14, 2014.

Patrick William Dent passed away on Jan. 14, 2014 at the age of 81 surrounded by those he loved.

A retired social studies teacher of New Hyde Park Memorial High School for over 30 years, he was also the assistant Chief of Security of Shea Stadium for over 30 years, a 60 year member B.P.O.E. Lodge #878, Elmhurst and longtime member of the Knight of Columbus, Corpus Christi Council #2502.

He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Claire (nee Layburn); cherished father of Kevin and Kerrie, Liam and Kathleen, Noreen and James (Dodson), Mairin and Michael (Ryan), and predeceased by his daughter Meaghan; adored Papa of 14 grandchildren: Kailin, Alanna, Meaghan, Sean, Patrick, Kara, Michael, Collin, Brian, Kiera, Lauren, Fionn, Seamus and Brigid; loving brother of Thomas and the late Darby.

Survived by many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He will be lovingly missed for his compassion for others, funny jokes and kind heart.

A wake will be held on Wednesday, January 15 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Thursday, January 16 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at thw Cassidy Funeral Home, 156 Willis Ave., Mineola. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 17 at 10:45 a.m., Corpus Christi Church with interment at Long Island National Cemetery.
