No. 70: Get Fit for the New Year

Keep your New Year’s resolution for your mind and body.

With the New Year upon us, many people are determined to keep their resolutions. One of the most common goals is to maintain or start a new healthy lifestyle by losing weight or working out. In and around New Hyde Park there are places and resources to maximize the success of your new year’s goal.

Start fresh in honor of 2012. By setting a realistic goal you will be less likely to let yourself down. Perhaps start simple by signing up for a trial at a local gym, find a group of people to exercise with or take advantage of public classes the village has to offer.

Throughout the week, the  offers a wide variety of exercise classes including different types of yoga, tai-chi, a form of martial arts; or zumba, an aerobic form of exercise inspired from the Latin culture.

Believe it or not, some people actually enjoy taking classes instead of working out solo because it gives them a sense of motivation. Research suggests that high intensity workouts such as zumba can actually improve the quality of life be releasing natural chemicals in the body.

You might even find a special introductory membership to start off the new year and to help encourage healthy living. It’s never too soon to start!
