Sewanhaka Superintendent Offers Thoughts on Lost Student from New Hyde Park

Superintendent Dr. Ralph Ferrie issued the following remarks.

The following are the opening remarks of Sewanhaka School District Superintendent Dr. Ralph Ferrie made during the public meeting of the Sewanhaka Central High School Board on Sept. 27, 2012:

I’d like to begin this evening’s meeting by asking us all – both the audience and the board – to keep Harsha Maddula and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

Harsha is a 2011 graduate of New Hyde Park Memorial High School, a student at Northwestern University has been missing since Saturday.

The entire Sewanhaka Central High School District community and certainly New Hyde Park Memorial High School in the New Hyde Park community is keeping Harsha and his family deeply in their thoughts.

The following comment was posted to the New Hyde Park Patch Facebook page by Ed Gerbe: "I'm not exactly sure of the policy but it would be a nice gesture to lower the flag for a few days."

I agree it would be a very nice gesture. I am just sick over Harsha's passing. My prayers for Harsha, his parents and family for evermore. So sad

God rest his soul. Such a tragedy for his family and our community. My prayers are with Harsha's family.
