Outages decrease substantially since weekend.

About 1,600 customers in the New Hyde Park area are still without power as of 12 p.m. Monday afternoon after Hurricane Sandy barreled through Long Island according to LIPA figures.

According to LIPA, a total of 383 customers in New Hyde Park were still without electricity, down from 841 over the weekend. In North New Hyde Park, 977 are powerless, a decrease from 2,375 last reported. Garden City Park has 262 customers affected, down from 531 this past weekend, while 440 homes in Herricks are without electricity, down from 2,228.
