I have lived on covert avenue for 20/25 years of my life and in that time I have seen what feels like hundreds of accidents. My family keeps the NHP Fire Dept number by our phone to call quickly for this very purpose. The speeders on Covert make it a dangerous road for residents, pedestrians and other motorists. The saddest part is most of those I see and hear zooming down the road are young men "cutting" through the towns of Stewart Manor, Floral Park and New Hyde Park on their way to somewhere else that they may never arrive to due to their speeding! In the last few months I have seen a fence taken out on the corner of 5th (that time was an elderly lady). And a telephone pole hit (also on the corner of 5th) by a gentleman. Both in addition to this recent accident. Even then, there are a number of smaller accidents that go unreported. Such as when my neighbor was rear-ended by two young men coming up from Elmont while she was trying to turn into her driveway. Sometimes, at night, you can hear (and see, if you look out your window) people racing up Covert in the early hours of the morning. It's a large road that needs more caution/yield lights to prevent the senseless loss of life! I don't even want to think about what would happen in the event the train tracks were moved above ground and there was *nothing* to stop the onslaught of traffic from Jericho.

Dear all, Let's pray for Hassam to recover and may god (Allah) rest the soul of Adam in peace and grant him the highest place in Jannah (Paradise). Please just pray and stop blaming or looking for what happened because when the time comes for everyone will go, Allah the almighty have said in Quran "Every single soul of the son of Adam will taste death" and when your time comes you will not be delayed a second. May God bless all and guide us all before our time come. Ameen. AF

Its a shame that a young life was lost. This could have however been much worse, he could have killed some other innocent person with his excessive speeding and reckless driving. Covert Ave is not a speedway. A neighbor

AF Yes I was aat the scene about 5 min after it happened. I live in the area. He killed himself by his reckless driving and speeding. That's the price you pay for being simply DUMB. It's too bad people have to loose their live to learn a lesson.
jooooo May 01, 2012 at 05:07 PM
ur acting like you were there and u no wat happened. he wasnt speeding get ur facts straight and show sympathy @Andy
YEA May 01, 2012 at 05:40 PM
i dont get how you lose control of your car if you're not speeding. too many of these kids are driving at ridiculous speeds in residential neighborhoods bc they think they're on a nascar track. driving isn't a GAME. there's people's lives at stake, and the kid lost his own and put his brother in the ICU. think about that the next time you wanna race on local streets.
Rob D May 02, 2012 at 12:59 AM
So all you judgmental people need to stop everyone has driven past the speed limit once in their life. Stop acting like your all angels we all were 20 at one point and we all made mistakes in our life. Not necessary to rub it in we are all grieving his death we don’t need your obnoxious two cents.
AF May 02, 2012 at 02:12 AM
Dear Rob, May our lord bless you and bless everyone that have put the comment in this event, it is true we all acknowledge that we have done going over speed limit sometimes but we were just lucky that we are here today puting our comments but guess why? Our time has not come yet, we all should pray to have that happen in a good time and a good condition, nobody knows what tomorrow is hidden for him/ Her. God bless and protect all! FA

Ok maybe he was going fast but you don't know the whole story. He had to turn because a car pulled out without looking, he SAVED someone's life and btw that person came over and even admitted that it was her fault. Get your facts straight, alot can happen in five min and you got there AFTER it all happened.
Jesus Walks May 05, 2012 at 10:40 PM
Agreed. For those who say he wasn't speeding learn to read. "According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle while headed north on Covert Avenue at a high rate of speed just south of the Long Island Rail Road tracks at about 1:10 p.m. The vehicle crashed into a tree just past Fifth Avenue on the block preceding Wayne Avenue." #ANDYWINS

You don't know adam, you dont know what really happened, you dont know fucking SHIT. Listen up, I know what really happened, I'M HIS FUCKING COUSIN. I grew up with him, I know him well. I'm not gonna sit here and explain the whole fucking story again, I already had to explain it to like a hundred freakin' people already and I'm not gonna repeat it because some idiot doesn't know anything, though I can tell you right now you are full of shit and adam was trying to do the opposite, he was trying NOT to hit someone okay??! I know the full story bitch. I am so pissed off at you for actually not knowing what happened and then posting that retarded ass comment, plus, he was one of the most beautiful, nice, caring guys EVER. If you knew him you would know but your retarded self is saying whatever he wants to say.
Missy May 06, 2012 at 04:18 AM
Let me ask you this, did you see the accident happen?? I know the real story and what your saying is bullshit he was trying to save someone's life. "anonymous" is correct, that is what happened. Adam is a hero ^_^ so screw you.
Missy May 06, 2012 at 05:27 AM
omg you're so dumb. He lost control because he kept trying to not hit the other cars, he kept turning and turning and did a hard turn so he doesn't hit then his car couldn't take it and spun out of control then hit the tree. Get it? jeez
Andy June 20, 2012 at 05:27 PM
Aryeah Lemberger, who heads up transportation/roads for Nassau County (it's a county road) has been informed via my formal letter of complaint. He said the area would be analyzed and perhaps signage or a light might be most appropriate. That said, he was not responded to a single follow-up letter. As for Adam, may he rest in peace - and to his friends, may you learn from his mistakes.
