The life of a 21-year old driver was claimed in a fatal car accident on Covert Avenue and New Hyde Park Friday afternoon.
According to reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle while headed north on Covert Avenue at a high rate of speed just south of the Long Island Rail Road tracks at about 1:10 p.m. The vehicle crashed into a tree just past Fifth Avenue on the block preceding Wayne Avenue.
The was called to the scene. The entire driver’s side of the vehicle was seen to have been smashed in.
Reports of the accident first indicated that there was an entrapment but it was later changed to a fatality.
