Cars Collide Closing Lakeville Road Friday

North New Hyde Park accident had at least one victim transported to hospital.

At least two cars collided on Lakeville Road near the entrance to West Maple Drive in North New Hyde Park late Friday morning, closing the roadway for over 90 minutes.

A Toyota sedan and a Toyota SUV were involved in the crash, with at least one victim being taken to a trauma center by the Garden City Park Fire Department. Members of the New Hyde Park Fire Department also responded to the scene, reportedly having a hurst tool in operation to rescue at least one of the drivers.

According to an eyewitness at the scene, the SUV was travelling on the wrong side of the road, heading southbound in the northbound lane when it hit the sedan and spun around several times before coming to a stop.

Both the sedan and the SUV were observed to have handicapped license plates.

Lakeville Road was closed in both directions at Bryant Avenue from 11:52 a.m. forward. The southbound lane was opened at 1:18 p.m.

Impacts were also sustained to a third car, a sedan, which was located on the eastern side of Lakeville Road in a stationary position. It was not immediately known if the vehicle was in motion at the time of the accident or if it was in a stationary parked position.
