Cause of Fatal Fire in New Hyde Park Is Under Investigation

A man passed away and two firefighters were taken to local hospitals.

The Nassau County Arson/Bomb Squad is investigating the cause of a fire that broke out on Sunday at about 12:50 a.m. at 526 Seventh Avenue in New Hyde Park.

While the firefighters were working on putting out the fire, they found the body of a 79-year-old man who's identity isn't being released, according to a report from the Nassau County police. Additionally, two firefighters had minor injuries and were taken to local hospitals, the report said.

The responded to this case as well as personnel from the Bellerose Terrace, Franklin Square, Stewart Manor, Floral Park, Garden City Park, Mineola and Manhasset-Lakeville fire departments, the report said.  About 125 firefighters worked on this fire, the report said.

According to the report, the fire is "considered non-suspicious" but its cause is undetermined.
